Overlooking the serene shoreline of Long Island Sound this boating community traces its history back to 1663 when 30,000 acres of land known as Hamonoscitt was petitioned for settlement by John Clow Jr. The town boasts 400 acres of preserved woodlands and salt marshes for naturalists and hikers. Water recreation includes boating, waterskiing, swimming and fishing. Clinton Outlets are located off exit 63 on I95 providing a rich shopping experience for many. One of my favorite breakfast places, The Coffee Break, is located downtown on RT1.
Some Town Facts
Clinton Connecticut is another eastern shore town steeped in history. Originally known as Homonoscitt in 1663, it was designated as a town in 1667 known as Kenilworth. In 1838 the towns of Killingworth and Clinton split to go off on their own.
When I think of Clinton I primarily think of four things,:boating, the outlets, Channard Wine, and the Coffee Break restaurants. Home to several fine marinas, boaters flock to the docks each summer. The annual Blue Fish Festival is a must-visit if you are in the area.
Clinton's train station was recently renovated as part of the Shoreline East improvement project. This offers a great commuting alternative into New Haven and beyond. There is a proposal underway at the state level to further expand this service. New Haven is about 35 mins. away and New London about 25 mins. both on I 95. Hartford can be reached in about an hour via RT 81 then RT 9 and I 91. Middletown is 20-25 minutes away as well, via RT 81 and RT 9.
Clinton's 13,700 residents live across its 16 square miles bordered by Madison to the west, Killingworth to the north and Westbrook to the east. Clinton has a 97.5% graduation rate and has over 70% attending college.
