Founded in 1667, Kenilworth as it was known then originally encompassed all of current Killingworth, as well as neighboring Clinton. Killingworth's 6,300 residents are spread out over 23 square miles. As you drive through the town's country roads you will see open space, forest, rivers, lakes and numerous horse properties bordering beautiful neighborhoods. Like many area towns, Killingworth is governed by a town meeting form of government providing all citizens input into the direction of the town. Chatfield Hollow State Park is a tremendous natural preserve great for picnicking, hiking, swimming and fishing.

Founded in 1667 as Kenilworth, the original town comprised all of current Killingworth and Clinton. In 1883 the southern portion of the town was split off and renamed Clinton. To this day Killingworth residents retain close ties with their neighbors to the south, even enjoying resident status at town beaches.
Major routes into Killingworth are RT 80 and RT 81. A little bit of trivia - even numbered state routes run east/west, odd numbered north/south. You can reach I 95 and the Shortline East Commuter railroad via RT 81. New Haven and Old Saybrook can also be reached via RT 81. To get north to Middletown or Hartford you would take RT 81 north to RT 9 north.
Killingworth is home to Chatfield Hollow State Park on RT 80. This is a great natural resource with swimming, picnic areas and hiking. Killingworth Land Conservation Trust maintains miles of hiking trails throughout the town.
